At the Feb. 2 City Council meeting, Columbia Fire Chief Bill Markgraf presented Mayor Hindman with an Insurance Office Service (ISO) letter.  The Columbia Fire Department has been given a Public Protection Classification of a Class 2 rating by the ISO.  It is only one of seven fire departments in Missouri to achieve this ranking, and only the St. Louis Fire Department has been granted a Class 1 rating.

According to the press release, the 1,784 fire departments in Missouri average a Class 9 rating, so this is quite an honor.

“I know you’ve wanted this for a long time,” Markgraf said, as he handed the framed letter to the Mayor.

The City Council also unanimously approved a raise for City Manager Bill Watkins.  The 2 percent raise had been discussed in a previous work session, and Hindman said it was within the budget’s appropriations.
