How will you be a city activist this week? [Week of Feb. 23, 2009]

Below is a few of the public meetings schedule for this coming week. What are you planning to attend?

Monday
• noon: Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board meeting at the Walton building, 300 S. Providence. The CVB plans to discuss the Tourism Development Fund Application (Art in the Park 2009), the Sports Development Fund Application (Midwest Team Roping Championships), tourism signage update, Jefferson Farms update and staff reports.
• 4:30 p.m.: Building Codes Commission meeting in the Mezzanine conference room at the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway.
• 5:30 p.m.: Fire Sprinkler Task Force meeting in the Mezzanine conference room at the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway. The Missourian last wrote about the task force when it was commissioned by Columbia City Council.
• 5:30 p.m.: Public Information meeting in the Planning conference room on the second floor of the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway. This bi-weekly meeting is held to discuss current planning projects.


Tuesday
• 4 p.m.: Columbia Vision Commission meeting in the fourth floor conference room at the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway. The Vision Commission is still seeking public input on its vision implementation report.
• 4 p.m.: Downtown Leadership Council meeting in the Mezzanine conference room at the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway. A statement made at a meeting earlier this month caused quite a controversy.
• 7 p.m.: Environment and Energy Commission meeting in the third floor conference Room of the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway.

Wednesday

Thursday
• 1 p.m.: Columbia Regional Airport — Master Plan Committee meeting at the Columbia Regional Airport’s north terminal building, 11300 S. Airport Road. The airport has been notably more successful in recent times.
• 5:30 p.m.: Columbia Regional Airport — Master Plan Public Information meeting in the Mezzanine conference room at the Daniel Boone building, 701 E. Broadway.

Friday
• 9:30 a.m. City Manager Bill Watkins’ press conference in the City Council Chambers, 701 E. Broadway.
• Noon Sixth Ward City Council candidates Barbara Hoppe and Rod Robison will be at a Muleskinners meeting at Upper Crust, 904 Elm St.

Saturday
• 8:30 a.m. Third Ward City Councilman Karl Skala’s office hours at the Cherry Street Artisan, 11 S. Ninth Street.
• noon Sixth Ward City Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe’s office hours at Main Squeeze, 28 S. Ninth St.

  1. Thursday’s meetings at Columbia Regional Airport should be really interesting.

    I went to the last meeting and they said they might have the final design for the Master Plan. It’s pretty neat to see what changes could be made to the airport.

    Also, the changes involved in the master plan should cost a pretty penny. Anybody know what the mix is between federal and local money going into the project?
