Joint commission close to completing high school sub-area plan

The city and county’s joint planning and zoning commission has nearly completed it’s work on the northeast Columbia sub-area plan, also known as the high school sub-area plan.

“There is a draft out there,” Skip Elkin said, Boone County Northern District Commissioner and joint commission member.

Elkin, whom I spoke with at Wednesday morning’s joint meeting of the City Council, County Commission and Columbia School Board, said that commissioners are changing more of the format of the draft rather than the content.

“I think everyone was on the same page,” Elkin said. He noted that because the plan didn’t get into the nitty-gritty of each piece of land around the new high school and instead focused on broader things like creating opportunities for parks and recreation, the folks involved were able to come together pretty easily.

Stick with me while I try to get a hold of the early draft to examine all the details.
