At the City Council meeting on Monday, First Ward Councilman Paul Sturtz questioned the city’s priorities in approving an extension of Rolling Hills Road in east Columbia. I was only able to touch on this topic in my story, but I’d like to delve a little deeper into the issue.
Before the City Council discussed the Rolling Hills Road project, it heard citizens make statements relating to bike lanes on Range Line Street and traffic calming on Alexander Avenue. The city doesn’t have an infinite amount of money to spend on projects, so it has to choose the ones that will benefit the most people. Sturtz pointed out that when the City Council approves a project, it is also voting to spend money that could be used in other areas. I’d like to know what you think about this issue or what projects you think should be priorities for the city.
