Proposed sewer rates ordinance sent back to staff

An ordinance that would amend sewer rates and charges was sent back to city staff at the City Council meeting last night. Council voted to instruct staff to work on the issue over the next three months, and Mayor Darwin Hindman asked staff to look into how other cities deal with sewer rates. He specifically wants staff to look at other cities with large universities like Madison, Wis.,  and Iowa City, Iowa.

Council discussed the proposed ordinance at the pre-council dinner (which is open to the public) and heard public comment during the meeting.

Sewer issues can be complicated and we’re working on getting together more information about the sewer rates and charges for residents and MU.
