Shaw relatives, supporters sit outside polling location

Armed with bottled drinks and blue shirts reading “Kim Shaw for Judge,” Cheryl Poore and Nikita Tietsort greeted voters at Bethel Baptist Church in Columbia during today’s primary election. Poore, Shaw’s sister-in-law, and Tietsort, Shaw’s niece, first voted inside the church, then found a shady spot outside to set up their folding chairs. The two have been volunteering for Shaw for months, and Poore was with her on the day she filed for candidacy. Shaw is seeking the Democratic nomination for Boone County associate circuit judge, division 5.

“I think she has a fighting chance,” Tietsort, 18, said. Today was her first time voting.

The two are among a handful of Shaw supporters who plan to be at polling locations today. While sitting outside the church, they directed voters toward the building entrance and chatted about family trips, Proposition C and the weather. After taking a morning break, they hope to be back in the afternoon. If it’s not too hot.
