Columbia fire chief retiring after 22 years of service (Missourian)

William Markgraf will retire from his position as fire chief of the Columbia Fire Department on January 5, 2011.

Columbia city council to discuss East Area plan tonight (KOMU)

At 7:00 p.m. tonight, the Council will discuss a plan to restrict commercial buildings in an area about 20 miles east of Columbia.  The plan was passed by the city’s planning and zoning commission.

Republican candidates in the Missouri General Assembly have advantages in fundraising (Daily Tribune)

Although incumbent state Rep. Chris Kelly, D-Columbia has raised more funds than Republican challenger Laura Nauser in the local 24th District race, Republican candidates have gotten significantly more donations in the majority of state races.  In particular, they have been able to get significant donations from political action committees.

Columbia explores potential ban on advertising trucks (Missourian)

The city council is considering banning mobile advertising vehicles such as the Tiger Mobile Advertising truck.  However, the city currently allows advertisements on city buses and many local businesses also display their logos on delivery vehicles.
