St. Louis Cardinals manager promotes Prop B

Proposition B commercials are popping up around Missouri with the face of Tony La Russa, St. Louis Cardinals manager, asking people to vote yes on the initiative.

La Russa appears in the commercial speaking about why Proposition B is important. The commercial is funded by the campaign committee Missourians for the Protection of Dogs/Yes! On Prop B. The committee spent $1 million on TV advertising in the past few weeks. Over half of the money in support of the campaign came from the Humane Society of the United States. They are also airing commercials with a staff veterinarian from the Humane Society of Missouri.

La Russa is  a volunteer for the Yes! On Prop B campaign. The commercial labels him as a co-founder of the Animal Rescue Foundation, but does not name him as the manager of the Cardinals. The Animal Rescue Foundation’s website says that it is “Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation.”

The amendment aims to abolish puppy mills in Missouri by detailing the law already in place for licensed dog breeders. It would limit breeders to have no more than 50 breeding dogs. Missourians will be able to vote on the initiative on the Nov. 2 ballot.
