Rainbow House Holds Youth Essay Contest

What does being homeless mean to you?

That’s the question that Rainbow House is asking 14- to 21-year-olds to answer for its Youth Essay Contest.

According to Brenda Jackman, Rainbow House’s marketing director, in 2008-2009 there were 198 homeless children in the Columbia School District and 148 juvenile runaways in Boone County. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 31.

The winner will be announced on November 4, at 5:30 p.m. as a kick-off event for Rainbow House’s Homeless Youth Awareness Month. The winner receives a cash prize and the chance to share their essay at the State Capitol on Homeless Awareness Day. All essays must include the author’
