Conservative budgeting is boon for city — Tribune

The city was able to turn a projected, $1.9 million budget deficit into a surplus of more than $864,000. As a result of these savings, City Manager Bill Watkins said the city shouldn’t need to raise utilities during the next budget year.

A public hearing Tuesday cleared the way for the Boone County Commission to vote on the plan, which was originally assigned by the Columbia City Council in Dec. 2008. The commission will be the last public body to vote on the document.
