Appointments to boards and commissions

Last night, Oct. 17, during its regular meeting, the City Council voted on the applicants for some boards and commissions:

  • Building Construction Codes Commission. There were 5 vacancies with terms to expire August 1, 2012. There were only one applicant for the regular electrician position, Mike Rose was elected. The Commission reviews and makes recommendations relating to building construction code. They gather every month on the fourth Monday at 4:30 p.m.
  • Columbia Community Development Commission. There were 3 vacancies with terms to expire November 1, 2014. Pamela Forbes was elected for the position for Ward 1. The Commission advices in all matter related to community development. Monthly meeting are held on call.
  • Historic Preservation Commission. Paul Prevo was elected for the one vacancy with term to expire in September 1, 2013. This Commission makes recommendations to the Council regarding historically significant structures. Every month meeting are held on the first Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
  • Citizens Police Review Board. There were 4 vacancies. Three positions have the term to expire in November 1, 2014, Stephen Alexander, Roger Dowis and Jerry Kennett were appointed. The third vacancy has its term to expire November 1, 2012,  Mitchell Richards was chosen. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday on the month at 7:00 p.m.
  • Cultural Affairs Commission. There were 4 vacancies with terms to expire October 31, 2014. The vacancy for a professional office in the Special Business District now is filled with Melody Marcks. Another vacancy filled is for the layperson, Aaron Krawitz. The other two positions are marked as “General Interest”, Addison Myers and Kevin Schults were elected. This Commission advises the Council in all matters related to the arts and cultural environment of the City. Meetings are held monthly on the second Monday at 4:15 pm.
  • Internet Citizens Advisory Group.  Julie Nichols was appointed for the vacancy with term to expire October 15, 2014. The Group makes recommendations to staff and Council on resource priority for the City’s effective utilization of the Internet. Every month meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
  • Substance Abuse Advisory Commission. There were 3 vacancies with terms to expire October 31, 2014, but only two of them are filled. Christopher Hawf was elected for the healthcare professional and Robert Erdel was appointed for the general interest position. Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 12:00 p.m.
