Delta cuts in Memphis could affect Columbia fliers

Delta Air Lines will be reducing the amount of flights out of Memphis International Airport again, according to The Commercial Appeal. These cuts are scheduled for Jan. 4 and will put the total number of flights out of Memphis at 185. The airport had 325 daily departures in 2000.

Jill Stedem, spokeswoman for the Columbia Public Works Department, said these cuts will not directly affect Columbia Regional Airport.

“To our knowledge at this time we are not going to see any additional cuts beyond what we already know,” Stedem said.

However, Stedem added that passengers flying out of Columbia will now have a harder time reaching their final destination after landing in Memphis as they will have fewer flight options.

The Missourian previously reported that Delta would cut midday flights out of Columbia from December to February. Kristin Baur of Delta said that flight is still scheduled to return in March.
