Tillotson campaign accuses Hoppe of abusing power in fraternity house agreement by Kip Hill

City Council candidate Bill Tillotson released an ad that accuses Sixth Ward Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe of abusing her position when she intervened in a fight against the construction of Beta Theta Pi’s fraternity house on East Campus. Hoppe disputed the claim and said that she worked so that all parties could come to a mutually beneficial solution. Watch the ad and read Hoppe’s response here

City Council candidates deliberate about public safety, community involvement by Dan Burley. 

At a forum hosted by Keep Columbia Safe, candidates responded to questions involving, among other topics, the Citizens Police Review Board. Among Second Ward candidates, Bill Pauls said he wasn’t sure if the board was effective, while Mike Atkinson said he’d like the board to have more authority. Michael Trapp said it “hadn’t lived up to its promises.”
