McCaskill continues to push for end to big oil subsidies after failed vote by Tim Sampson, Missouri News Horizon

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., spoke to reporters outside a Shell gas station to encourage President Barack Obama’s message to end $35 million in federal subsidies to the nation’s five largest oil companies. Although McCaskill joined all but four of her Democratic colleagues in voting to revoke the subsidies, the Republican-led Senate blocked the President’s proposal.

Judge strikes down payday loan initiative by David A. Lieb, The Associated Press

The Missouri initiative limiting payday loans was struck down Thursday by a court ruling that deemed that the ballot title was “likely to deceive people.” Cole County Circuit Judge Dan Green called into question the legality of the thousands of signatures collected on the petitions for the initiative’s advance. Supporters of the initiative plan to press forward.
