Senate approves its version of budget by Bob Priddy, Missourinet

The Missouri Senate debated until 2:30 a.m. on the budget, but finalized its 2013 version totaling more than $24 billion. The Senate’s version calls for 1,000 fewer state employees.

Governor announces construction of 35 new Joplin homes at Tiger Caravan by Susan Redden, the Joplin Globe

The 35 homes will be divided into seven neighborhoods, with seven MU athletic teams sponsoring each neighborhood. Habitat for Humanity will oversee construction. In addition to MU, the St. Louis Rams, Cardinals, Kansas City Royals and Chiefs are sponsoring neighborhoods.

Developers plan to build a parking garage behind the apartment complex currently in construction on the northwest corner of College Avenue and Walnut Street. The neighborhood associations is worried that the influx of students in August will strain parking in the neighborhood, despite the increase in parking spaces. Their solution is a provision for residential parking permits, which Director of Public Works John Glascock agreed to bring before the city.
