Bill would delay closing of postal centers by Melissa Miller, Southeast Missourian

Last year, the postal service announced its intentions to  close hundreds of facilities across the country in an effort to save money after billions of dollars in losses. Several of Southeast Missouri’s rural post offices are also slated for closure, including Daisy, Dutchtown, Whitewater, Old Appleton, Blodgett and Perkins. But legislation approved Wednesday by the U.S. Senate would keep post offices and mail distribution centers open for now.

Missouri GOP files complaint against McCaskill by Maria Altman, STL Public Radio

The Missouri Republican Party filed an ethics complaint Thursday against Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. The complaint, which was submitted to the US Senate Select Committee on Ethics, alleges McCaskill solicited for campaign donations while on federal property.

The Missouri Senate endorsed a measure Thursday that alters the way candidates for the state’s top judicial positions are selected.Senate Joint Resolution 51 addresses a seven-member commission in charge of screening applicants for the three districts of the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court whenever a vacancy occurs.

The Missouri Senate race won’t be decided for another seven months, but the two sides have already filed three ethics complaints between.
