Webber secures another labor endorsement

Stephen Webber, candidate for the Democratic nomination in the Missouri House’s 23rd district, announced the endorsement of the Missouri Laborers’ Legislative Committee Monday.

The group represents over 15,000 members statewide.

Webber has received numerous endorsements, including seven other union organizations, according to a campaign release. Some of his other labor endorsements include the AFL CIO Missouri and the  Missouri State United Auto Workers.

“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of the Laborers’ and have them stand by me during this campaign, and am excited to stand up for them and all working people across Missouri in the State Legislature in the coming years,” Webber stated in a release.  “I will work to protect important pro-Union priorities, and ensure that Missouri is a state where everyone who works hard can earn a fair wage.”

Webber is running against Cande Iveson in the 23rd District Democratic primary scheduled for Aug. 5. There is no republican candidate for the general election.

Independent ends campaign for 9th District

Justin Johnson, who announced earlier this summer

Justin Johnson

Justin Johnson

his bid for the 9th District seat, has ended his campaign due to “limited support.”

“I was never running to pull a 2 percent protest vote,” Johnson said in an e-mail.

From his short time on the campaign trail, Johnson said he’s seen how unsatisfied people are with the current political process, and because voters feel so disconnected, they don’t have the motivation to work for change.

Johnson had 4,500 raw signatures, about 350 signatures short of what’s needed to get on the November ballot. However, since the signatures are not verified, he’d need closer to 7,500 to account for illegible signatures and for those disqualified because their information doesn’t match city records.
