Jacob releases TV spot

Former senator Ken Jacob released the first television ad of his run for the Ninth District congressional seat.

In the ad, Jacob highlights the importance of withdrawing troops from Iraq, increasing jobs in the U.S., “rescuing” Social Security, and giving all Americans access to health care and education.

Jacob is in a four-way race against State Rep. Judy Baker, former Missouri Public Service Commission chairman Steve Gaw and Marion County Presiding Commissioner Lyndon Bode.

Sam Page endorsed by former Gov. Roger B. Wilson

Former Governor Roger B. Wilson endorsed lieutenant governor candidate Sam Page Monday at Switzler Hall on the MU Campus. Wilson said that Page’s work as a doctor would bring a new perspective to the health care issue, especially as it relates to senior citizens.

“Sam has made it to where he is in life through hard work,” Wilson said.

Page said that if elected he would work to restore funds that were diverted from Medicaid programs so it would be easier and more affordable for seniors to have access to healthcare. Page said that even though he is campaigning, he still sees patients on Fridays and that many have to sacrifice medication so they can afford other necessities.

“I have patients that come in and stack their bottles of prescriptions across my desk and ask me which ones they should stop using,” Page said. “I don’t want to see seniors choosing between prescriptions and utility bills and food.”

Page is running against five opponents in the democratic primary. The primary will take place August 5.

Zweifel Gains St. Louis Post-Dispatch Endorsement

Clint Zweifel, one of the Democratic candidates for Missouri State Treasurer, received the endorsement of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sunday.

“He promises to fight to make state college tuition more affordable, encourage job growth and reduce real estate taxes,” The Post-Dispatch’s editors said.  “Clint Zweifel’s youth, enthusiasm and commitment give him the edge.”

“I am honored that the Post-Dispatch endorsed my campaign to return fiscal responsibility to state government and to help Missouri families facing rising college tuition costs and increasing mortgage rates,” Zweifel said.
